What is Power Factor?
Power Factor reflects the efficiency of your Electrical System. It is the Ratio of Real Power to Apparent Power KW/KVA.
Real Power is the Actual work, measured in Watts.
Apparent Power is the Inefficient work measured in Volt-Amps.
What causes Poor Power Factor?
Equipment common to Industrial/Commercial facilities such as Motors, Transformers, Industrial Heating Systems and Welding Transformers are great examples of Inductive Loads that cause poor Power Factor.
Why should you care if you have Poor Power Factor?
Poor Power Factor costs your company money each month. The Utility Company, in most cases, charges a penalty if your Power Factor is below 90%. This penalty is not a line item (rider) on your utility bill, but it does exist, and we can help you determine that monthly cost.
Along with the penalty on your monthly bill, poor Power Factor puts added stress and heat on your electrical system in your facility. This heat can shorten the lifespan of your equipment and cause unexpected outages.
How can Innovative Electric Service fix your Poor Power Factor?
Every facility is different, therefore the solutions are different. Initially, we would perform a site walkthrough which includes reviewing your facilities utility bill and attaching our Power Quilty Meter to your electrical system. The data recorded from the Power Quilty Meter will be analyzed and a custom solution will be provided. Many factors including Penalty Costs, Corrective Capacitors Sizing, potential for growth, Harmonic Distortion levels, Logistics of the Equipment Integration and environment will be considered in our report. Finally, each report will include a ROI for consideration.
